In this digital age, we have plethora of news sources i.e. Satellite tv and Online news sources. Credibility of the news sources has always been in question as some of the news channels and websites are peddling fake news to cater and to appease their political masters. They spin and twist the facts to suit the narrative of their political masters. The Press is called the Fourth pillar in a democratic setup. But unfortunately, some of the news channels and websites have made it a money minting business.
In this blog, we made an attempt to call their bluff.
1.A self-proclaimed most honest journalist of India, Mr. Ravish Kumar (NDTV INDIA) has recently posted a propaganda that there is paucity of funds in the Indian Army.
Here is the truth of fake propaganda of paucity of funds in Army.
“A ministry of finance office memorandum dated August 2, 2017 reveals that the rules regarding supply of uniforms were changed last year with the implementation of the recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission. According to the recommendations, the system of providing uniforms and various kinds of allowance regarding dress and its maintenance were merged into one consolidated “Dress Allowance”, to be paid annually.”
2. A new was doing the rounds on social media platforms, despite lower value of crude oil in International market, People have to shell out more for Petrol and Diesel. The message says India is under debt piled up in the UPA government’s regime to pay Iran for oil procured in UPA regime. India take 5 Lakh barrels per day from Iran and And we owed Iran 43 thousand crore rupees as Oil bill.
Opposition parties, especially Congress alleged that this is fake news and some of the news channels towed their line without doing the fact check.
But when Narendra Taneja (National convener of BJP’s energy cell) was approached by some news channel to know about the truth. He told the media the Modi Government paid an instalment of the debt piles up in UPA regime.
The UPA regime paid just 55 % of the oil bill to Iran. The money is not just 43 thousand crore rupees as Iran wants payment in the current value of Euros. India paid Rs 5000 crore back to Iran.
So, this news was true.
3. Another fake propaganda which created a stir across nation was that no black money recovered by Modi Government and Demonetization was a disaster.
But the Truth is that, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court – appointed SIT on black money, Justice Arijit Pasayat announced on March, 3, 2017 that Rs. 70,000 crore of black money has been recovered.
4. NDTV’s Ravish kumar in February, 2018 propagated a fake news that the India’s Jump in the rankings of Ease of Doing Business report from 130 rank to 100 is flawed. Ravish kumar brazenly reported that Chief Economist of World bank, Mr. Paul Romer said that the rating have been manipulated.
But the fact is Paul Romer’s statement was twisted and distorted.
Here is an excerpt from Paul Romers website :
“In a conversation with a reporter, I made comments about the Doing Business report that gave the impression that I suspected political manipulation or bias. This was not what I meant to say or thought I said. I have not seen any sign of manipulation of the numbers published in Doing Business report or in any other Bank report.
What I did want to say is something many of us in the Bank believe–that we could do a better job of explaining what our numbers mean.”
So, Instead of following fake propagandas of such malicious news sources, one should verify the news before sharing it on social media platforms.
